Welcome to the Scrip Program!

Friends of the Westborough Public Schools Fine Arts Program
aka "Friends of WPSFAP"

1. Who/What is Friends of the Westborough Public Schools Fine Arts Program?

We are a non-profit organization run by volunteer parents offering a way for families to earn money through their normal shopping purchases, and support Fine Arts programs at the same time.  We are organized under the Westborough Fine Arts Education Association -- WFAEA-- a 501(c)(3) non-profit, parent volunteer group.

2. What is scrip?

Scrip is a fundraising device used by non-profit organizations throughout the country and is an acronym that stands for “substitute cash redeem in person.”  Friends of WPSFAP works with scrip wholesaler Great Lakes Scrip Center (GSLC) who provides the web site from where you will place orders.

3. How does scrip work?

Families purchase and receive gift cards at face value.  You spend $100 and receive a $100 gift card.  We buy the gift cards at a discounted price.  The difference between the face value and the discounted price is the rebate amount.

80% of the rebate goes into your account, and 20% is a deposited into the Friends of WPSFAP General Fund, which distributes monies to the School District for use by the Director of Fine Arts. Accrued rebates in your account are returned to you twice a year, in January and June, to use however you wish!

For example, you buy a $100 gift card to Stop and Shop.  We buy the gift card for $96.  You receive a $100 gift card.  $3.20 goes into your account and $0.80 goes into the general fund.

Costs for administering the scrip program are covered by the general fund. In the 2013-14 year, this scrip program generated $890 for the School District!

3.5 What is “ScripNow”?

In addition to ordering physical gifts cards or certificates that you must pick up from us, you may also use the “ScripNow” system for immediate purchases of scrip!  As explained at :

ScripNow® - Electronic gift cards are available from many of our retailers, and can be ordered and printed from your ShopWithScrip account.  The ScripNow eCard is delivered to your account in minutes when you pay for your order with PrestoPay - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Print the certificate and redeem it in stores, or copy and paste the code at checkout to apply to an online purchase. You can also order and redeem ScripNow right from your phone using

4. What retailers participate in GLSC program?

Hundreds of retailers nationwide work with GLSC, with new retailers joining every month.  Some of the more popular retailers are Stop & Shop, Panera, Starbucks, Staples, and CVS.  Visit the web site for the most complete listing of participating merchants and the discounts they offer.

5. What does scrip look like?

Scrip looks like the exact same kinds of gift cards and certificates you might purchase directly from participating retailers.  GLSC purchases these gift cards and certificates at a discount, directly from retailers, so that rebates may be passed on to you.

8. How are my physical scrip cards or certificates ordered?

On the 15th of every month, September - May, volunteers place a bulk order for everyone who has ordered physical scrip (cards or certificates) through  GLSC fills the order and express mails the cards to the program volunteers.  The volunteers sort them for distribution prior to scheduled WFAEA meetings. WFAEA meetings are published at on the calendar.

9. How do I get my scrip?

You can pick up your scrip 30 minutes BEFORE scheduled WFAEA meetings, which will usually be the period 6:30 – 7:00 PM, in or outside the High School Library.  WFAEA meeting times -- and locations -- will be published on the website.

Remember, scrip is like cash!  On your enrollment form, you may authorize other individuals to whom we can distribute your scrip, such as your child or another adult.  At pick up, you will be asked to sign for your scrip on the ORDER PICK-UP RECEIPT FORM to indicate “I have received my scrip order and the order is correct”.

10. Do I have to wait until the next WFAEA meeting pick-up date to receive my scrip cards or certificates?

Not if you have a student currently enrolled in the high school.  As a courtesy, only your student may request your cards from the Director of Fine Arts during subsequent school days, if you cannot make the above pick-up time.  Alternatively, you will need to wait until the next WFAEA meeting.:

The student will be required to similarly sign the ORDER PICK-UP RECEIPT FORM to indicate the order is correct.  The scrip program will not be responsible for lost or misplaced scrip, once it has been signed for.

PLEASE NOTE: if your child requests to pick up scrip for you, and signs the ORDER PICKUP RECEIPT FORM, they are assumed to have been authorized as if listed on the enrollment form.

11. What is PrestoPay and how does that work?

Pay for your scrip gift cards online with PrestoPay™, the convenient payment system available on When you use PrestoPay, your order payment is transferred securely via electronic debit. You won’t have to drop off any more checks!

PrestoPay is not a credit card system, because credit cards charge fees that are costly for our scrip program. Instead, PrestoPay uses the same electronic payment transfer used by direct deposit systems. It’s easy to use, and easy to get started!

Simply log into your ShopWithScrip® account, click on the PrestoPay link under Family Functions on your Dashboard, and enter your checking account information. Complete the steps to verify your information, and you will receive a secure approval code to share with your scrip coordinator.

Send this code via email to and put PrestoPay in the subject line.  You’ll receive another email from ShopWithScrip once your account is approved.

That’s it! You will then be able to choose the PrestoPay option when you check out on, and have your payment securely transferred from your checking account right to GLSC. A small $0.15 convenience fee will apply to each order.

For more information about this online scrip payment system, view the instructional videos found on the same PrestoPay page on your ShopWithScrip account.

12. Does scrip expire and are there any limitations on its use?

Massachusetts law prohibits the expiration of gift certificates and cards.  However, several merchants do have limitations on the use of scrip.  Before you purchase any merchant’s scrip, we recommend visiting the participating retailers at to see specific terms.

13. Are there ever any special offers by merchants?

Yes.  On the website, the “What’s New” tab highlights information about special offers by retailers.  You are encouraged to visit the web site before placing each order to maximize your earnings.

14. Is there a minimum or maximum amount of scrip I must purchase?

No.  But please remember that Friends of WPSFAP purchases this scrip through a third-party wholesaler and cannot be responsible for any failures by the company to meet its obligations.

15. How will I know how much money is in my account?

Log onto your account at  Go to my account and then click on reports on the left hand side of the screen.  You can view your balance after entering the desired dates.  Our fiscal year runs from Sept. 1 – August 31.  You need to subtract 10% of the total and then subtract the deductions that have been taken.  Periodically, (usually once a month) we will have your updated balance available at the scrip table.

16. How do I use the funds in my scrip account to pay for Fine Arts related expenses?

On Westborough High School and Gibbons Middle School permission slips and order forms, you will be provided with a scrip check off box to authorize deductions from your account to pay for your expenses.

17. How do I use the funds in my scrip account to pay for my Activity Fees?

Bring your invoice and a filled out “Scrip Request for Fund Disbursement” form to the scrip table on designated Wednesdays.  We will write the check for you.

18. Where is my money kept?

Friends of the WPSFAP has an account at the Central One Federal Credit Union.

19. When can families begin participating in the scrip program?

At any time!  We encourage families to begin participating early so that they will be able to accrue substantial amounts by Gibbons or the High School.

20. What happens if I order physical scrip between May and September?

Program volunteers will not be processing such orders after the last bulk order sent to GLSC in May.  If you accidentally place an order after May, it will remain in the system and be processed when our scrip program resumes the following September.

If you need to cancel such an accidental order, please contact the Scrip Coordinator via email.

21. Is there any risk involved?

GLSC is a private business.  Although we have used all due diligence to confirm the company’s reliability, we cannot control or guarantee its solvency.  We will be processing orders once every two weeks to eliminate the need for families to send excessively large amounts of money at one time.  Should GLSC be unable to meet its obligations, we cannot accept responsibility for lost funds.
